NHL News and Notes from Sunday, February 16th, 2020
- The New Jersey Devils traded defenseman Andy Greene to the New York Islanders for defenseman David Quenneville and a 2021 2nd Rd Pick.
- The Devils would not be done as they would trade forward Blake Coleman to the Tampa Bay Lightning for forward prospect Nolan Foote and Vancouver’s conditional 2020 1st rd Pick.
- The NHL announced that the game for the Anaheim Ducks and St. Louis Blues has been rescheduled for March 11th at 10p ET/7p PT.
- Per the NHL’s release, the game will be played with the full 60 minutes and will start with the score tied at one.
- The Blues game against the Panthers for March 10th has been moved to March 9th at 8p ET/7p CT.
Detroit Red Wings v. Pittsburgh Penguins – 1230p EST Start Time
In Pittsburgh the Penguins would face the Detroit Red Wings, and in the first period Valtteri Filppula would open the scoreing for the Wings, but the next five goals would be all for the Penguins as Sam Lafferty, Kris Letang, Patric Hornqvist (two goals), and Sidney Crosby would all score to give the Penguins the 5-1 victory.
Boston Bruins v. New York Rangers – 330p EST Start Time
At Madison Square Garden the Boston Bruins would net a goal per period to defeat the New York Rangers 3-1 as Charlie McAvoy, Charlie Coyle, and Patrice Bergeron would score to give the Bruins the victory. Mika Zibanejad would score on the powerplay for the Rangers lone goal.
Edmonton Oilers v. Carolina Hurricanes – 4p EST Start Time
In Carolina we would see a tightly contested matchup between the Hurricanes and Edmonton Oilers. In the first period both teams would trade goals as Leon Draisaitl and Trevor van Riemsdyk would score for their respective teams. Then in the second period Sebastian Aho would score for the Hurricanes, but goals by Kailer Yamamoto and Josh Archibald would give the Oilers the 3-2 lead. In the third period Aho would net his second of the game to tie the game at three, but Archibald’s second of the game would give the Oilers the 4-3 victory.
Anaheim Ducks v. Vancouver Canucks – 5p EST Start Time
In Vancouver we would see the Canucks and the Anaheim Ducks reverse the script as the Canucks would wear their white uniforms at home. However, flipping the script on the jerseys would not help the Canucks as the Ducks would get goals from Adam Henrique (two goals), Derek Grant, Sam Steel, and Brendan Guhle to take the 5-1 victory. Elias Pettersson would score the lone goal for the Canucks.
St. Louis Blues v. Nashville Predators – 6p EST Start Time
In Nashville the Predators and the St. Louis Blues would play a tightly contested matchup. After a scoreless first period Craig Smith would score to open the scoring for the Predators, but Tyler Bozak would respond to tie the game for the Blues. Then in the third period Kyle Turris would net his ninth of the season to give the Predators the 2-1 victory.
Dallas Stars v. Ottawa Senators – 6p EST Start Time
In Ottawa the Senators would host the Dallas Stars, and in the first period both teams would trade a pair of goals as John Klingberg and Stephen Johns would score for the Stars, and Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Brady Tkachuk would score for the Senators. Then after a scoreless second period both teams would trade goals again as Tyler Ennis and Joe Pavelski would score for their respective teams, and in overtime Artem Anisimov would score to give the Senators the 4-3 victory.
Columbus Blue Jackets v. New Jersey Devils – 6p EST Start Time

Toronto Maple Leafs v. Buffalo Sabres – 7p EST Start Time
In Buffalo the Sabres would face their longtime rival Toronto Maple Leafs, and after a scoreless first period Johan Larsson and Conor Sheary would score for the Sabres to take the lead, but Egor Korshkov would score his first career NHL goal in his first NHL game to get the Leafs on the board. Then in the third period Zach Hyman would score for the Leafs, but goals from Jack Eichel, Kyle Okposo, and Jimmy Vesey would give the Sabres the 5-2 victory.
Chicago Blackhawks v. Winnipeg Jets – 830p EST Start Time
In Winnipeg the Jets would host the Chicago Blackhawks, and in the first period Ryan Carpenter would strike first for the Blackhawks to take the 1-0 lead. Then in the second period Mason Appleton and Jack Roslovic would score for the Jets to take the lead, but Patrick Kane would score to tie the game at two. Then in the third period Nathan Beaulieu would score to give the Jets the 3-2 victory.
