NHL News and Notes from Wednesday, January 1st, 2020

 

News:

  • The NHL has announced that they have fined Minnesota Wild goaltender Alex Stalock $2000 for diving.
    • Stalock’s first offense was on Oct. 12th versus Pittsburgh and was issued a warning.
    • Stalock’s second offense was on Dec. 21st against Winnipeg and was issued the above fine.

 

  • The NHL has announced that the Minnesota Wild will host the 2021 Winter Classic at Target Field, home of the Minnesota Twins of MLB, on January 1st, 2021.

 

  • The Columbus Blue Jackets announced that they have put forward Alexandre Texier on Injured Reserve after suffering a lumbar stress fracture, and will be out indefinitely.

 

  • The NHL has announced that they have fined Columbus Blue Jackets head coach $20,000 for comments made on Dec. 29th, 2019. The League also announced a conditional fine that will be assessed for similar “inappropriate behavior” through Dec. 29th, 2020.

 

Game Recaps:

At the Cotton Bowl the Dallas Stars would host the Nashville Predators for the annual Winter Classic outdoor game. In the first period Corey Perry would elbow Predators defenseman Ryan Ellis in the head, and forcing him out of the game, to get a five minute major and a game misconduct in the first three minutes of the game to give the Predators the early advantage. A delay of game penalty would give the Predators a full two minute two man advantage that would see Matt Duchene open the scoring on the two man advantage, and then Dante Fabbro would score while on the finishing moments of the original five minute powerplay to take the 2-0 lead into the first intermission. Denis Gurianov would get a penalty shot opportunity after the two Predator goals, but would be unable to get the Stars on the board with the opportunity. Then in the second period Blake Comeau would strike to get the Stars on the board, and in the third period the Stars would get goals from Mattias Janmark (PPG), Alexander Radulov (PPG), and Andrej Sekera to complete the comeback victory over the Predators 4-2.
