Game Recap:

In the last game of 2019 and for the decade, the Washington Capitals would play host to the New York Islanders. In the first period the Islanders would jump to and early 2-0 lead with goals from Casey Czikas and Brock Nelson. However, the Capitals would respond as Evgeny Kuznetsov and Tom Wilson would strike to tie the game at two. The Capitals would find themselves in the penalty box twice in the first, but would be successful on killing both penalties.

 

In the second period Kuznetsov would score his second of the game 44 seconds into the period to give the Capitals the 3-2 lead, but a little over three minutes later Czikas would net his second of the game to tie the game back up at three for the Islanders. Then Tom Kuhnhackl would score his second of the season to give the Islanders the lead back as the Islanders would take the 4-3 lead into the second intermission.

 

In the third period both teams would have some back and forth chances, but the Capitals would dominate the majority of the period outshooting the Islanders 17-4 in the third, but even with a late powerplay opportunity for the Capitals, the Islanders would hold on to win 4-3 to end 2019 and the 2010’s decade.
