Game Recap – 11/30/2019 – Washington Capitals v. Detroit Red Wings

Washington Capitals (18-4-5 41pts) v. Detroit Red Wings (7-18-3 17pts)

Game Recap:

The Washington Capitals head to Detroit to start their four game road trip, and for their second game of their weekend back to back. In the first period the Capitals would get themselves into penalty trouble, and while they would be effective on their first penalty kill, the second they would struggle and recently acquired forward Robby Fabbri would score on the powerplay to give the Red Wings the 1-0 lead. The Capitals would get a powerplay opportunity after giving up the goal, but they would not be able to capitalize with the man advantage. However, with eleven seconds left in the period, Tom Wilson would be called for kneeing and the Wings will get to start the second period with the powerplay.

In the second period the Capitals would kill the penalty by drawing one of their own against the Wings, and with their abbreviated powerplay opportunity TJ Oshie would strike from his 11th of the season to tie the game at one. Then after a failed powerplay opportunity it would be Alex Ovechkin for his 18th of the season to give the Capitals the 2-1 lead.

Then in the third period it would take some time before any fireworks would explode, but the explosion would be short lived as first Tom Wilson would score his tenth of the season to give the Capitals the 3-1 lead, but nine seconds later Luke Glendening would strike to get the Wings back within one. However, in the final two minutes of the game Alex Ovechkin would score back to back empty netters to complete the hat trick and give the Capitals the 5-2 victory over the Red Wings.
