Tampa Bay Lightning (12-8-2 26pts) v. Washington Capitals (17-4-5 39pts)
Game Recap:
On Black Friday for a five o’clock matinee, the Washington Capitals would play host to the Tampa Bay Lightning, and the Capitals would generate some good scoring chances, but would get themselves into penalty trouble. The Capitals would kill off their first penalty, but they would not on the second one as Brayden Point would score a beauty for his 100th career NHL goal while on the powerplay to give the Lightning the 1-0 lead late in the first period.
In the second period the Lightning would grow their lead to two as Mikhail Sergachev would find the loose puck behind Braden Holtby to give the Lightning the 2-0 lead. However, the Capitals would finally get a powerplay opportunity and make it count as TJ Oshie would set Evgeny Kuznetsov up for the powerplay marker to cut the Lightning’s lead back to one. Though late int he period Alex Killorn would score his sixth of the season to regain the two goal lead for the Lightning as they head into the second intermission up 3-1.
Then in the third period the Capitals would bounce back from their weak second period as Jakub Vrana would score to bring the Capitals back within one as his shot would fool everyone for the delayed reaction as everyone looked for where the puck was. However, the Capitals would get themselves into penalty trouble again as Alex Ovechkin would get called for interference, and yes it was interference, but the Capitals would kill the penalty and force one of their own as Nikita Kucherov would be called for holding and Ovechkin from his office would tie the game at three while on the powerplay. Then in overtime it would be Dmitry Orlov completing the comeback for the Capitals as he would net his second of the season to give the Capitals the 4-3 victory.
