First Period:

Leafs Penalty – 11:36 – Mitch Marner, 2 mins for Too Many Men

Penguins PPG Goal – 11:42– Evgeni Malkin (2) from Kris Letang (4) and Sidney Crosby (5)

End of 1st – TML – 0         PIT – 1

Shots              9                     17

Faceoffs     8/18                10/18

Hits               5                      10

PP                 0/0                   1/1

Leafs played well early but let the Pens offence in the zone for prolonged periods of time. The Pens play an aggressive offence so the puck needs to be moved quick and the Leafs defence struggled with that a bit.

Need to Do:

Quick passes, more offensive zone time. Draw penalties.

Second Period:

Leafs Penalty – 08:21 – Zach Hyman, 2 mins for Tripping

Penguins Penalty – 09:44 – Matt Murray, 2 mins for Delay of Game

End of 2nd – TML – 0          PIT – 1

Shots              22                    28

Faceoffs       21/38             17/38

Hits               13                     24

PP                 0/1                    1/2

Leafs took over this period, but Matt Murray has played unbelieveable. Leafs need to get more traffic in front of the goaltender, right now Matt Murray is seeing everything.

Need to Do:

Get more bodies in front of the net. Matt Murray is seeing everything and playing picture perfect tonight.

Third Period:

Penguins Goal – 17:53– Evgeni Malkin (3) Empty Net,  Unassisted

Penguins Goal – 18:52– Kris Letang (4) Empty Net,  from Evgeni Malkin (9) and Bryan Rust (1)

End of 3rd – TML – 0         PIT – 3

Shots              38                   39

Faceoffs     31/56                25/56

Hits               21                     30

PP                 0/1                    1/2

The Leafs played a strong game ran into a hot goalie, made one mistake on the powerplay and paid for it. Frederik Andersen played unbelievable at the other end. Leafs just need to go back and remember they didn’t lose this because of any lack of effort.
