These are your news and notes for Saturday, October 6th, 2018…
There were two contests last night in the NHL.
- The Carolina Panthers defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-1 at Nationwide Arena. Carolina’s Sebastian Aho registered two points (one goal and one assist) and 18-year-old rookie Andrei Svechnikov (one assist) to lead Carolina to their first victory on the season. This would also be the first NHL win for new Carolina head coach Rod Brind’Amour
- The San Jose Sharks defeated the Los Angeles Kings 3-2 in overtime at Staples Center. New Sharks acquisition Erik Karlsson, who lead all skaters in the contest with 29:27 time on ice, would go on to register his first point after surrendering a two-goal lead. This victory would also be the Sharks fourth-consecutive regular-season win over the Kings.

- Today marks the debut of the Minnesota Whitecaps when they take on the Metropolitan Riveters at 5 p.m. ET.
