Montreal Canadiens Lose David Schlemko

The Montreal Canadiens have lost defencemen David Schlemko for up to six weeks with a knee injury. Schlemko was injured during Wednesday’s pre-season game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. He missed time last year with a hand injury and upper body injury.

 

In 10 seasons in the NHL, Schlemko has scored 18 goals and 74 assists for 92 points in 397 games. After being claimed on waivers by the Dallas Stars in 2015, Schlemko has bounced aro

 

Schlemko was selected by the Golden Knights in the expansion draft by the Vegas Golden Knights but was then Traded to the Canadiens. Last season didn’t go as expected for Schlemko and the Canadiens. In 37 games Schlemko had a goal and four assists for five points.

What This Means for the Habs

The Habs were already down Shea Weber and now with the Schlemko injury, It opens the gate for more youngsters some NHL playing time. In his absence expect to see Noah Juulsen and Xavier Ouellet get some playing time. Juulsen is one of the Habs young defencemen but has only played in 23 games after being drafted in 2015.
