News:

  • In the NWHL, the Metropolitan Riveters have announced that they have signed forward Kelly Nash for the remainder of the 2019-20 season, and could make her season debut in the Labatt Blue Buffalo Believes Classic.

 

  • The Chicago Blackhawks announced a slew of injuries on Thursday as Brandon Saad will be out three weeks with a right ankle injury, and both Calvin de Haan (right shoulder) and Brent Seabrook (right shoulder and hip) have been placed on LTIR and will miss the remainder of the 2019-20 season.

 

 

  • The Boston Bruins have placed defenseman Torey Krug on IR, and recalled defensman Steven Kampfer on an emergency basis.

In the first period Linus Wallmark would open up the scoring for the Hurricanes, but Mika Zibanejad would strike on the powerplay to tie the game at one. Then in the second period Brett Pesce would score for the Hurricanes, but goals from Chris Kreider, Artemi Panarin, and Zibanejad (PPG, second of the game) totake the 4-2 lead. In the third period Sebastian Aho would tally for Carolina, but Ryan Strome would score to secure the Rangers the 5-3 victory.

The Washington Capitals finally solved the Columbus Blue Jackets in their third matchup as TJ Oshie would net the game winner for the 2-1 victory.

In Colorado the Avalanche would host the Minnesota Wild for a back and forth contest. In the first period Carson Soucy and Eric Staal would strike for the Wild, but Matt Calvert and Gabriel Landeskog would strike back to tie the game at two. Then in the second period Brad Hunt would strike on the powerplay for the Wild and Nathan MacKinnon would score for the Avalanche, but then in the third period Calvert would net his second of the game for Colorado, but Mats Zuccarello, Victor Rask, and Ryan Suter would score to give the Wild the 6-4 victory.

 

Pittsburgh Penguins v. Nashville Predators – 8p EST Start Time

In Nashville the Pittsburgh Penguins would get the jump on the Predators with first period goals from Dominik Simon, Alex Galchenyuk, and Teddy Blueger to take a commanding 3-1 lead. The in the second period Bryan Rust and Juuso Riikola to take the 5-1 lead. Viktor Arvidsson would tally in the third period (and a Craig Smith tally in the first period) would cut the Penguins lead to three, but it would not be enough as Pittsburgh would hold on to win 5-2.

 

St. Louis Blues v. Winnipeg Jets – 8p EST Start Time

In Winnipeg the Jets would play host to the St. Louis Blues. In the first period Justin Faulk would open the scoring for the Blues, but Gabriel Bourque would tie the game at one. Then in the second period Kyle Connor would score fort he Jets, but the Blues would get goals from Alex Pietrangelo and Tyler Bozak (PPG) to take the 3-2 lead. Theni nthe third period Bozak would score his second of the game for the Blues, butConnor would score his second of the game and Blake Wheeler would tally late to send the game overtime tied at four. In overtime David Perron would score his fourth overtime game winner of the season to give the Blues the 5-4 victory.

In Chicago the Blackhawks would get goals from Dennis Gilbert, Dominik Kubalik, Alex DeBrincat, Jonathan Toews, and Matthew Highmore to take the 5-2 victory over the New York Islanders. Ross Johnston and Casey Cizikas (SHG) would score the two goals for the Islanders.

 

Calgary Flames v. Edmonton Oilers – 9p EST Start Time

In Edmonton the Calgary Flames would make the Oilers pay for their poor third jersey choice. In the first period Andrew Mangiapane would score 11 seconds into the game, and Matthew Tkachuk would strike to give the Flames the 2-0 lead, but Connor McDavid would strike for the Oilers. Then in the second period Sean Monahan and Elias Lindholm would strike to take the 4-1 lead. Then in the third period Mikael Backlund would score shorthanded to give the Flames the 5-1 victory.

 

Vegas Golden Knights v. Anaheim Ducks – 10p EST Start Time

In Anaheim the Ducks and Vegas Golden Knights would do battle, and after a scoreless first period Jonathan Marchessault would break the tie for the Knights, but the Ducks would strike with goals from Adam Henrique (PPG), Cam Fowler, and Jacob Larsson to take the 3-1 lead. Then in the third period Nate Schmidt would score a pair of goals for the Knights, but it would not be enough as Devin Shore would score his second of the season to give the Ducks the 4-3 victory.

 

Los Angeles Kings v. San Jose Sharks – 10p EST Start Time

In San Jose the Sharks would play host to the Los Angeles Kings. After a scoreless first period Erik Karlsson and Joe Thornton would score to give the Sharks the 2-0 lead. Theni n the third period Martin Frk would score a pair of goals to tie the game at two to send the game into overtime, and with the extra frame Jeff Carter would score to complete the comeback as the Kings downed the Sharks 3-2.

In Toronto it would be a wild one between the Maple Leafs and Carolina Hurricanes. In the first period Jason Spezza, William Nylander (PPG), and John Tavares (PPG) would score for the Leafs to kick start the period, but then Brock McGinn (SHG) and Martin Necas (PPG) would score for the Hurricanes to cut the Leafs lead to one. Then in the second period the Hurricanes would continue their comeback as Necas would score his second of the game followed by goals from Erik Haula and Andrei Svechnikov to take the 5-3 lead. Then in the third period Haula would score his second of the game for the Hurricanes, but a pair of goals from Mitch Marner, and goals from Auston Matthews, Tyson Barrie, and Pierre Engvall would score as the Leafs would bounce back and defeat the Hurricanes 8-6.

 

Calgary Flames v. Minnesota Wild – 5p EST Start Time

In Minnesota the Wild would host the Calgary Flames, and after a scoreless first period the Wild would strike as Joel Eriksson Ek and Luke Kunin would both score to give the Wild the 2-0 lead. Then in the third period Eric Staal would seal the deal with his 14th of the season to give the Wild the 3-0 victory.

The Washington Capitals would lay an egg against the Boston Bruins as the Bruins would get a four goal first period to take command in their 7-3 victory.

In Tampa Bay we would see the Lightning play host to the Florida Panthers, and it would be the Lighting striking many times to overwhelm the Panthers. In the first period Brayden Point, Victor Hedman, and Mikhail Sergachev (PPG) would all score to take a commanding 3-0 lead. Theni nthe second period Jonathan Huberdeau would net a powerplay tally for Florida, but Alex Killorn and Nikita Kucherov would both net powerplay goals for the Lightning to grow their lead to four. Then in the third period Hedman would net his second of the game to give the Lightning the 6-1 victory.

Then in the third period Vladislav Gavrikov would net his fourth of the season to give the Blue Jackets the 3-2 victory.

In Philadelphia the Flyers would play host to the New York Rangers, and after a scoreless first period the Rangers would strike first with a Jespar Fast shorthanded goal. However, the Flyers would respond with five unanswered goals as Travis Sanheim would tie the game at one with two seconds left in the second period, then in the third period Sanheim would score his second of the game, Kevin Hayes would score a pair of goals, and Nicolas Aube-Kubel would score his first career NHL goal to secure the 5-1 victory.

In Ottawa the Senators would host the Buffalo Sabres, and in the first period Jean-Gabriel Pageau would net his 17th of the season to give the Senators the 1-0 lead. Then in the second period Zemgus Girgensons would tie the game at one. In the third period Pageau would net his second of the game and Brady Tkachuk would score to secure the 3-1 victory for the Senators.

 

Arizona Coyotes v. Nashville Predators – 8p EST Start Time

In Nashville the Predators would play host to the Arizona Coyotes. In the first period Filip Forsberg would get the Predators on the board for the 1-0 lead. Then in the second period Viktor  Arvidsson would score to grow their lead to two, but Lawson Crouse would net his seventh of the season to bring the Coyotes within one. Then in the third period Roman Josi would score for the Predators, and while Jakob Chychrun would score for the Coyotes, the PRedators would hold on to win 3-2.

 

Montreal Canadiens v. Winnipeg Jets – 8p EST Start Time

In Winnipeg the Montreal Canadiens would ground the Jets. In the first period Kyle Connor would score for the Jets on the powerplay, but Tomas Tatar would net a pair of goals (PPG and EVS) to take the 2-1 lead for the Canadiens. Then in the second period Patrik Laine would score for the Jets, but Phillip Danault would score a pair of goals, and Max Domi would get on the board to give the Canadiens a 5-2 lead. Then in the third period Artturi Lehkonen would net his seventh of the season to secure the 6-2 victory for the Canadiens.

Then in the second period Oscar Klefblom would strike on the powerplay to give the Oilers the 2-1 lead. Then in the third period The Canucks would get goals from Bo Horvat, Quinn Hughes (PPG), and Loui Eriksson to take the 4-2 victroy over the Oilers.

In Vegas the Golden Knights would play host to the Colorado Avalanche, and in the first period despite getting a goal from Ryan Reaves, the Knights would get slammed by the Avalanche as Pierre-Edouard Bellemare, Matt Nieto (SHG), and Nazem Kadri would score to give the Avalanche the 3-1 lead. However, in the second period Max Pacioretty would net his 16th of the season to get the Knights within one, but goals from Gabriel Landeskog (PPG), and Bellemare’s second of the game would grow the Avalanche’s lead to three. In the third period William Carrier would score for Vegas, but Mikko Rantanen (PPG) and Valeri Nichushkin would score to secure the 7-3 victory for the Avalanche.

In Florida the Panthers would host the Dallas Stars, and in the first period Denis Gurianov would score for the Stars, but Jonathan Huberdeau (PPG) and Anton Stralman would strike for the Panthers to take the 2-1 lead. Then in the second period Tyler Seguin would strike on the powerplay for the Stars, but the Panthers would explode for five goals as Noel Acciari would net a natural hat trick, and Vincent Trocheck and Colton Sceviour would score to give the Panthers a commanding 7-2 lead. In the third period Seguin would net his second of the game, and Jamie Benn would score his 8th of the season for the Stars, but it would not be enough as the Panthers would go on to win 7-4.

  • The Los Angeles Kings have placed forward Ilya Kovalchuk on unconditional waivers for the purpose of having his contract terminated.

 

  • The New Jersey Devils have traded forwards Taylor Hall and Blake Speers to the Arizona Coyotes for Arizona’s 2020 First Rd Pick (Conditional), 2021 Third Rd Pick (Conditional), along with prospect forwards Nick Merkley and Nate Schnarr, and prospect defenseman Kevin Bahl.

  • The NHL Department of Player Safety announced that Philadelphia Flyers forward Joel Farabee has been suspended for three games for interference agains Mathieu Perreault of the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday, Dec. 15th. Farabee will forfeit $14,919.36 in salary per the CBA.

 

  • The Chicago Blackhawks announced after a thorough investigation that assistant coach Marc Crawford will remain suspended from team activities until January 2nd, 2020 due to past conduct at previous coaching jobs. Crawford was removed from team activities on Dec. 2nd once reports of his past transgressions were revealed.

Then in the third period Artemi Panarin would strike for the Rangers, but Josi would score his second of the game, and Ryan Ellis would score to secure the Predators the 5-2 victory.

Then in the third period the Jackets would tie the game at three as they would get a pair of goals from Alexandre Texier to send the game to overtime. In the extra frame Anthony Duclair would score the game winner to cap off the hat trick and give the Senators the 4-3 victory.

Then in the second period Erik Gudbranson would score his second of the season to tie the game at two, but early in the third period Zibanejad would net his second of the game to regain the lead for the Rangers. However late in the third while on the powerplay Hampus Lindholm would score his first of the seaosn while on the powerplay to tie the game at three. After a scoreless first period the Hurricanes would strike as Brock McGinn would score his third of the season to take the 1-0 lead, then Dougie Hamilton would net his 12th of the season while on the powerplay to take a 2-0 lead into the second intermission. Then in the third period Warren Foegele would strike while shorthanded to grow the Hurricanes lead to three, then Foegele would strike again while shorthanded as the Hurricanes would go on to put out the Flames 4-0.

In the second period Staal would net his second of the game, and in the third period Carson Soucy would score shorthanded to secure the 4-1 victory for the Wild.

 

Detroit Red Wings v. Montreal Canadiens – 7p EST Start Time

In a battle between two Original Six teams, the Montreal Canadiens would play host to the Detroit Red Wings.In the first period Tyler Bertuzzi would get the Wings on the board first with his 11th of the season. Then after a scoreless second period Mike Green would give the Wings the two goal lead on the powerplay. Tomas Tatar would score shorthanded for the Canadiens, but it would not be enough as the Wings would take the 2-1 victory.

Then in the third period Mark Pysyk and Keith Yandle would score to get the Panthers on the board, but Pastrnak’s second of the game would secure the 4-2 victory for the Bruins.

 

Los Angeles Kings v. Pittsburgh Penguins – 7p EST Start Time

In Pittsburgh the Penguins would play host to the Los Angeles Kings, and in the first period it would be all Kings as Austin Wagner and Tyler Toffoli would give the Kings the 2-0 lead. Then in the second period Bryan Rust would score a pair of goals to tie the game at two for the Penguins. In the third period both teams would trade goals as Kyle Clifford and Michael Amadio would score for the Kings, and Teddy Blueger and Jack Johnson would score for the Penguins as the game would go into overtime tied at four. After the extra frame would not provide us a winner, a shootout would be required, and it would be Rust scoring the lone shootout goal to give the Penguins the 5-4 victory.

In Arizona, the Kachina clad Coyotes would play host to the New Jersey Devils. In the first period both teams would trade goals as Jesper Boqvist would score first to give the Devils the 1-0 lead, but the Coyotes would respond with an Alex Goligoski goal. After a scoreless second period Kyle Palmieri would score the game winner for the Devils as they would defeat the Coyotes 2-1.

 

Chicago Blackhawks v. St. Louis Blues – 8p EST Start Time

After a scoreless first period the Chicago Blackhawks would score 19 seconds into the second period with a Brandon Saad tally. Then in the third period Saad would net his second of the game and Patrick Kane would net his 15th of the season, but the host St. Louis Blues would strike with back to back goals by Tyler Bozak, and goals from Jacob de la Rose and Justin Faulk as the Blues would defeat the Blackhawks 4-3.

 

Vancouver Canucks v. San Jose Sharks – 10p EST Start Time

In San Jose, the Sharks would play host to the Vancouver Canucks, and in the first period Tomas Hertl would score to give the Sharks the 1-0 lead. In the first period Matt Duchene would get the Predators on the board first with his 8th of the season 57 seconds into the game. However, the Sabres would respond with a Jimmy Vesey tally, but the Predators would take the 2-1 lead with a Colton Sissons tally. In the second period the Sabres would respond with back to back goals from Jack Eichel, but Ryan Johansen would tie the game at three late in the period. Then in the third period Victor Olofsson would score his 13th of the season to give the Sabres the 4-3 victory.

Then in the third period Anders Lee would strike for his ninth goal of the season to give the Islanders 3-1 victory.

In St. Louis the Blues would strike first against the Vegas Golden Knights as MacKenzie MacEachern would score his fifth of the season, but the Knights would respond with goals from Max Pacioretty and William Carrier to take the 2-1 lead. However, in the second period Oskar Sundqvist, Jaden Schwartz, and Robert Thomas would all score to give the Blues the 4-2 victory.

In Minnesota the Edmonton Oilers and the Wild would have themselves a high scoring affair. In the first period Oscar Klfbom would strike for the Oilers, but Jordan Greenway and Jason Zucker would tally for the Wild. Then in the second period Leon Draisaitl would strike on the powerplay for the Oilers, but Marcus Foligno and Ryan Donato would strike for the Wild to take the 4-2 lead. Then in the third period Gaetan Haas, Connor McDavid, and James Neal would all score for the Oilers, but Erick Staal and Luke Kunin would score to secure the 6-5 victory for the Wild.

For the Canucks though, they only needed 40 seconds of the extra frame as Elias Pettersson would net his 13th goal of the season to give the Canucks the 1-0 victory.

 

Los Angeles Kings v. Anaheim Ducks – 10p EST Start Time

In the battle of California neighbors, the Anaheim Ducks would host the Los Angeles Kings, and in the first period it would be Matt Luff scoring his first career goal to give the Kings the 1-0 lead. In the second period Jeff Carter would score his ninth goal of the season while on the powerplay to grow the Kings lead to two. However, in the third period Derek Grant would net his ninth of the season while on the powerplay for the Ducks, but it would not be enough as the Kings would hold on to win 2-1.

 

New York Rangers v. San Jose Sharks – 1030p EST Start Time

In San Jose after firing their head coach the night before, the Sharks would play host to the New York Rangers. In the first period the Sharks would strike first as Tomas Hertl would score his 11th of the season while shorthanded. In the second period the Rangers would get on the board with goals from Jesper Fast and Artemi Panarin to take a 2-1 lead, but Logan Couture would tie the game at two for the Sharks before the end of the period. Then in the third period Brenden Dillon would net his first of the season for the Sharks, but Mika Zibanejad would net a pair of goals (PPG and EVS), and Panarin would score two more goals to complete the hat trick and give the Rangers the 6-3 victory.

    • Per General Manager Jim Nill the decision to relieve Montgomery of his duties were due to “unprofessional Conduct inconsistent with the core values and beliefs of the Dallas Stars and the National Hockey League.”

Then in the third period Brendan Gallagher would score his 14th of the season to secure the 4-1 victory for the Canadiens.

The Buffalo Sabres would play host to the St. Louis Blues, and in the first period the Sabres would get a quick start as Sam Reinhart would score his 12th of the season 18 seconds into the game, but Tony Brouwer would score his first of the season to tie the game at one. Then in the second period Johan Larsson would tally his fourth of the season to give the Sabres the lead back. In the third period Alex Pietrangelo would net his seventh of the season to tie the game at two, but less than two minutes later Jack Eichel would keep his point streak alive with his 19th goal of the season to regain the lead for the Sabres, and then Zemgus Girgensons would net his fifth of the season, and Eichel would net his second of the game to secure the Sabres the 5-2 victory.

 

San Jose Sharks v. Nashville Predators – 8p EST Start Time

After a scoreless forty minutes, things would heat up in Nashville between the Predators and the San Jose Sharks. In the third period the Sharks would get a goal from Timo Meier, but the Predators would get powerplay goals from Nick Bonino and Ryan Johansen, and Calle Jarnkrok would score his 11th of the season to secure the 3-1 victory for the Predators.

In Minnesota the Anaheim Ducks would get the jump on the Wild in the first period with tallies from Rickard Rakell and Cam Fowler (PPG) to take the 2-0 lead. However, in the second period Ryan Hartman would net his fourth of the season, and in the third period Ryan Donato would net his fifth of the season to tie the game at two for the Wild, and force the game into overtime. However, in the shootout the Ducks would dash the Wild’s hopes of the comeback victory as Max Comtois would secure the 3-2 victory for the Ducks.

In Winnipeg the Jets would fly high over the Detroit Red Wings. In the first period Adam Lowry would score while shorthanded to get the 1-0 lead for the Jets. Then in the second period Christoffer Ehn would score his first of the season to tie the game at one, but then the Jets would take over as Blake Wheeler, Andrew Copp, and Patrik Laine would all score to give the Jets the 4-1 lead. In the third period Mark Scheifele would seal the deal with a powerplay marker as the Jets would defeat the Wings 5-1.

In Edmonton the Carolina Hurricanes would come to town to surge over the Oilers, and surge they would in the first period as Sebastian Aho would get the Hurricanes on the board first with his 17th of the season. Then both Nino Niederreiter and Ryan Dzingel would strike on the powerplay to take a 3-0 lead into the first intermission. In the second period the Oilers would begin to mount their comeback with a Zack Kassian tally. Then in the third period Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (PPG) and Kassian (second of the game) would strike to tie the game at three, but Jordan Martinook would score his second of the season to regain the lead for the Hurricanes. Then Sebastian Aho would score his second of the game while on the powerplay, and Dougie Hamilton would score his 11th of the season to give the Hurricanes the 6-3 victory.

 

Calgary Flames v. Arizona Coyotes – 9p EST Start Time

In Arizona the Calgary Flames would heat up the desert as they would take it to the Coyotes. In the first period Michael Frolik and Johnny Gaudreau would strike for the Flames to take the two goal lead. Then in the second period Zac Rinaldo and Sean Monahan would grow the Flames lead to four before Jokob Chychrun would strike to cut the Flames lead to three. In the third period Milan Lucic would score on the powerplay to give the Flames their four goal lead back, but Phil Kessel would get a powerplay tally himself for the Coyotes, but it would not be enough as the Flames would win 5-2.

 

Toronto Maple Leafs v. Vancouver Canucks – 10p EST Start Time

After a scoreless first period in Vancouver, the Toronto Maple Leafs would strike first as Auston Matthews and John Tavares both would strike against the Conucks as the Leafs would take the 2-0 lead into the third period. I the third Josh Leivo would get the Canucks on the board, buth Tavares would score his second of the game, and Zach Hyman would score his sixth of the season to give the Leafs the 4-1 victory.

 

Chicago Blackhawks v. Vegas Golden Knights – 10p EST Start Time

In Vegas the Golden Knights would play host to the Chicago Blackhawks and after a scoreless first period the Knights would light the lamp three times in the second period. Reilly Smith would kick things off with a powerplay tally to break the scoreless tie, then Deryk Engelland would net his first of the season and William Karlsson would strike while shorthanded to give the Knights the 3-0 lead. Then in the third period Max Pacioretty and Ryan Reaves would score to grow their lead to five, but Dominik Kubalik would score late in the third while on the powerplay to end the Knights shutout bid. However, The Golden Knights would still cruise to the 5-1 victory.

Devin Shore would score the Ducks other goal of the game.

Then in the third period Mika Zibanejad would strik on the powerplay to give the Rangers the 5-0 victory.

 

Arizona Coyotes v. Chicago Blackhawks – 7p EST Start Time

In Chicago the Blackhawks would net three goals in the first period as Jonathan Toews, Alex DeBrincat (PPG), and Dominik Kubalik would get Chicago on the board, but the Arizona Coyotes would not bow out quietly as Christian Fischer would score in the first period, and Conor Garland (PPG) and Carl Soderberg (PPG) would tie the game up at three heading into the second intermission. After a scoreless third period and five minute overtime period, this game would require the shootout and it would be Conor Garland securing the 4-3 comeback victory for the Coyotes.
