News

  • The NHL Department of Player Safety announced that they have handed out a pair of fines.
    • First, DoPS fined New York Islanders forward Bo Horvat.
      • Horvat was fined $2,500 for unsportsmanlike conduct against San Jose Sharks forward William Eklund on Saturday, March 7th.
    • Then DoPS would fine Ottawa Senators defenseman Tyler Kleven.
      • Kleven would be fined $4,166.67 for cross checking Seattle Kraken forward Jared McCann on Saturday, March 7th.
      • The fine would be the maximum allowed per the CBA.

Jersey Tracking and Mini Recaps

Ottawa Charge v. New York Sirens – 12p ET (PWHL)

  • At the Prudential Center, the New York Sirens would play host to the Ottawa Charge, and in the first period, Maddi Wheeler, Sarah Fillier, and Taylor Girard (PPG) would score to give the Sirens the 3-0 lead, but a goal from Brianne Jenner would get the Charge on the board. Then after a scoreless second period, Gabbie Hughes would score to get the Charge back within one, but Girard would score her second of the game, Allyson Simpson would score on the powerplay, and Fillier would score the empty netter for her second of the game to give the Sirens the 6-2 victory over the Charge.

Minnesota Frost v. Toronto Sceptres – 12p ET (PWHL)

  • In Toronto, the Minnesota Frost would pay a visit for a battle against the Sceptres, and in the first period, Denisa K?ížová would score her first of the season for the Frost to take the 1-0 lead, but Emma Woods would score her first of the season to tie the game at one for the Sceptres. In the second period, Daryl Watts would score to give the Sceptres the 2-1 lead. Then in the third period, Taylor Heise would score on the powerplay to tie the game at two and force overtime for the Frost. In the extra frame, Kelly Pannek would score on the powerplay to give the Frost the 3-2 overtime victory over the Sceptres.

Minnesota Wild v. Colorado Avalanche – 2p ET

  • In Colorado, Nazem Kadri would make his return to the Avalanche as they host the Minnesota Wild, and after a scoreless second period, Nathan MacKinnon would score to give the Avalanche the 1-0 lead. In the third period, Kirill Kaprizov would score on the powerplay and Nico Sturm would score shorthanded to give the Wild the 2-1 lead, but Nicolas Roy would score his first as a member of the Avalanche to tie the game at 2 and force overtime. Then after a scoreless overtime period, MacKinnon would score the shootout winner to give the Avalanche the 3-2 victory over the Wild.

Boston Bruins v. Pittsburgh Penguins – 430p ET

  • In Pittsburgh, the Penguins would play host to the Boston Bruins, and in the first period, Pavel Zacha would score on the powerplay to give the Bruins the 1-0 lead. In the second period, Zacha would score his second of the game and David Pastrnak would score to give the Bruins the three goal lead, but Ego Chinakhov would score on the powerplay to get the Penguins on the board. Then in the third period, Connor Dewar and Anthony Mantha would score to tie the game at three for the Penguins, but then both teams would trade goals as Zacha would score to complete the hat trick and Mantha would score his second of the game to send this game to overtime tied at 4. In the extra frame, Tommy Novak would score 17 seconds in to give the Penguins the 5-4 overtime victory over the Bruins.

Tampa Bay Lightning v. Buffalo Sabres – 6p ET

  • In Buffalo, it would be a wild one as the Sabres hosted the Tampa Bay Lightning, and in the first period, Josh Doan would score on the powerplay for his 20th of the season to give the Sabres the 1-0 lead. In the second period things would get crazy as Jason Zucker and Alex Tuch would score powerplay goals to give the Sabres the three goal lead, but then Corey Perry would score to get the Lightning on the board. While Tuch would score shorthanded for his second of the game for the Sabres, the Lightning would get goals from Nikita Kucherov (PPG), Zemgus Girgensons, and J.J. Moser to tie the game at 4. Then in the third period, the goals would continue as Kucherov would net his second of the game and Brayden Point would benefit from an own goal to give the Lightning the 6-4 lead, but Sam Carrick would score his first as a Sabre to get them back within one. Brandon Hagel would score for the Lightning to take the 7-5 lead, but Rasmus Dahlin, Zucker, and Doan (PPG) would score to give the Sabres the 8-7 victory over the Lightning.

Chicago Blackhawks v. Dallas Stars – 6p ET

  • In Dallas, the Stars would battle the Chicago Blackhawks, and in the first period, Tyler Bertuzzi and Sam Rinzel would score to give the Blackhawks the 2-0 lead, but Nathan Bastian would score to get the Stars back within one. Then after a scoreless second period, Mavrik Bourque and Justin Hryckowian (PPG) would score to give the Stars the 3-2 lead, but Connor Bedard would score to tie the game at three and force overtime for the Blackhawks. In the extra frame, Miro Heiskanen would score to give the Stars the 4-3 overtime victory over the Blackhawks.

Detroit Red Wings v. New Jersey Devils – 7p ET

  • Back at the Prudential Center, the New Jersey Devils would play host to the Detroit Red Wings, and in the first period, Moritz Seider would score to give the Wings the 1-0 lead. In the second period, James van Riemsdyk would score on the powerplay for his 15th of the season to grow the Wings lead to two. Then in the third period, Dominik Shine would score his first NHL career goal to give the Red Wings the 3-0 victory over the Devils. John Gibson would stop all 21 shots faced and Cam Talbot would stop all 10 shots faced to combine for the shutout for the Red Wings.
