  • In the PWHL, they would announce their Starting Six for the month of January 2026.
    • Forwards named were Taylor Heise (MIN), Kristýna Kaltounková (NYS), and Marie-Philip Poulin (MON).
    • Defenders named were Nicole Gosling (MON) and Megan Keller (BOS).
    • Ann-Renée Desbiens (MON) was the goalie named to the Starting Six.

  • In Columbus, the Blue Jackets announced a pair of promotions.
    • Rick Nash was promoted to Director of Player Personnel/Development.
    • Chris Clark was promoted to Assistant General Manager.

Jersey Tracking and Mini Recaps

Columbus Blue Jackets v. New Jersey Devils – 7p ET

  • In New Jersey, the Devils would play host to the Columbus Blue Jackets for a Metro Division battle, and after a scoreless first and second periods, Dante Fabbro would score and Mathieu Olivier would score a pair of goals, including an empty netter that would be awarded to him, to give the Blue Jackets the 3-0 victory over the Devils. Elvis Merzlikins would stop all 24 shots faced to earn the shutout for the Blue Jackets.

Washington Capitals v. Philadelphia Flyers – 7p ET

  • In Philadelphia for the second of three Metro Division matchups, the Flyers would play host to the Washington Capitals, and in the first period, Owen Tippett would score to give the Flyers the 1-0 lead. In the second period, Carl Grundstrom would score to grow the Flyers lead to 2, but Aliaksei Protas would score shorthanded to get the Capitals on the board and back within one. Then in the third period, Anthony Beauvillier would score to tie the game at 2 for the Capitals, but a powerplay goal by Jamie Drysdale and an empty netter by Rasmus Ristolainen would give the Flyers the 4-2 victory over the Capitals.

Ottawa Senators v. Carolina Hurricanes – 7p ET

  • In Carolina, the Ottawa Senators would come to town to battle the Hurricanes, and in the first period, Stephen Halliday would score to give the Senators the 1-0 lead, but Sebastian Aho’s 20th of the season would tie the game at one for the Hurricanes. In the second period, Seth Jarvis would record a pair of goals to earn his 25th of the season to give the Hurricanes the 3-1 lead, but Tim Stutzle would score on the powerplay to get the Senators back within one. Then in the third period, Jake Sanderson would score on the powerplay to tie the game at three for the Senators, but Jordan Staal would score to give the Hurricanes the 4-3 victory over the Senators.

Buffalo Sabres v. Tampa Bay Lightning – 730p ET

  • In Tampa Bay, the Lightning would play host to the red hot Buffalo Sabres, and in the first period, Nikita Kucherov would strike first for the Lightning, but Mattias Samuelsson would score his 10th of the season to tie the game at one for the Sabres. Then after a scoreless second period, Samuelsson would net his second of the game for the Sabres, but Oliver Bjorkstrand would strike on the powerplay for the Lightning to tie the game at 2. However, both teams would trades goals again in the period as Josh Doan would score on the powerplay for the Sabres and Darren Raddysh would score for the Lightning to send the game to overtime tied at three. In the extra frame, Jake Guentzel would score with 15 seconds left to give the Lightning the 4-3 overtime victory over the Sabres.

Pittsburgh Penguins v. New York Islanders – 730p ET

  • On Long Island for the third Metro Division matchup, the New York Islanders would play host to the Pittsburgh Penguins, and in the first period, Anthony Mantha would score his 20th of the season to open the scoring for the Penguins, but goals from Bo Horvat and Matthew Schaefer would give the Islanders the 2-1 lead. In the second period, Egor Chinakov and Bryan Rust would score to give the Penguins the 3-2 lead. Then in the third period, Justin Brazeau would score his 15th of the season for the Penguins, but goals from Mathew Barzal and Ryan Pulock would send this game to overtime tied at 4. In the extra frame, Horvat would score his second of the game to give the Islanders the 5-4 overtime victory over the Penguins.

Toronto Maple Leafs v. Edmonton Oilers – 830p ET

  • In Edmonton for an all Canadian battle, the Toronto Maple Leafs would come to town to battle the Oilers, and after a scoreless first period, Jake Walman would score for the Oilers, but goals by Mattias Maccelli would score to give the Leafs the 2-1 lead. Then in the third period, Kasperi Kapanen would score to tie the game at 2, but powerplay goals from John Tavares and Maccelli and an empty netter by Bobby McMann would give the Maple Leafs the 5-2 victory over the Oilers.
