News

  • The Washington Capitals announced that they have activated forward Zac Funk off of Injured Non-Roster and have assigned him to Hershey of the AHL.

 

  • The New York Islanders announced that forward Kyle Palmieri will need surgery.
    • Palmieri was injured on Friday night, and will require surgery to repair an ACL tear in his left knee.
    • Palmieri is expected to miss 6-8 months.

Jersey Tracking and Mini Recaps

Vancouver Golden Eyes v. New York Sirens – 12p ET (PWHL)

  • At the Prudential Center, the New York Sirens would play host to the Vancouver Goldeneyes, and in the first period, Nicole Vallario would score her first career PWHL goal to give the Sirens the 1-0 lead, and then later in the period, Sarah Fillier would score her first of the season to give the Sirens the 2-0 lead. In the second period, Paetyn Levis would score her first of the season, and Kristin O’Neill would score her first as a Siren while shorthanded to give New York the commanding 4-0 lead. Then in the third period, Sophie Jacques would score her first goal as a Goldeneye to get them on the board and end Kayle Osborne’s shutout bid, but Kristýna Kaltounková’s first career PWHL goal would give the Sirens the 5-1 victory over the Goldeneyes.

Boston Fleet v. Toronto Sceptres – 2p ET (PWHL)

  • In Toronto, the Sceptres would play host to the Boston Fleet for their home opener, and in the first period, Blayre Turnbull would score shorthanded to give the Sceptres the 1-0 lead. In the second period, Abby Newhook would score her first career PWHL goal to tie the game at one for the Fleet. Then in the third period, Susanna Tapani and Alina Muller (ENG) would score to give the Fleet the 3-1 victory over the Sceptres.

Tampa Bay Lightning v. New York Rangers – 2p ET

  • At Madison Square Garden, the New York Rangers would play host to the Tampa Bay Lightning, and in the first period, Brandon Hagel would score to give the Lighting the 1-0 lead. In the second period, Hagel would net his second of the game for his 15th of the season to grow the Lightning’s lead to two, but J.T. Miller would score to get the Rangers on the board and back within one. Then in the third period, Nick Paul and Jake Guentzel would score to give the Lightning the 4-1 victory over the Rangers.

Montreal Canadiens v. Colorado Avalanche – 3p ET

  • In Colorado, it would be a rivalry “renewed” as the Avalanche would don their Quebec Nordiques jerseys as they host the Montreal Canadiens, and in the first period, Brock Nelson and Gabriel Landeskog would score to give the Avalanche the 2-0 lead. In the second period, Brent Burns would score and Nelson would strike again to give the Avalanche the dominating 4-0 lead, but Ivan Demidov would score to get the Canadiens on the board. however, Nathan MacKinnon would score his 20th of the season to give the Avalanche the 5-1 lead. Then in the third period, Lane Hutson would score on the powerplay for the Canadiens, but Devon Toews’s first of the season and Landeskog’s powerplay tally for his second of the game would give the Avalanche the 7-2 victory over the Canadiens.

Edmonton Oilers v. Seattle Kraken – 4p ET

  • In Seattle, the Edmonton Oilers would come to town to face off with the Kraken, and in the first period, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins would score to give the Oilers the 1-0 lead. In the second period, Leon Draisaitl and Zach Hyman (PPG) would score to grow the Oilers lead to three. Then in the third period, Connor McDavid would score to give the Oilers the 4-0 victory over the Kraken. Stuart Skinner would stop all 26 shots to earn the shutout for the Oilers.

Detroit Red Wings v. Boston Bruins – 7p ET

  • In Boston for an Original Six matchup, the Detroit Red Wings would come to town to faceoff with the Bruins, and after a scoreless first period, Morgan Geekie would score his 19th of the season to give the Bruins the 1-0 lead. Then in the third period, Lucas Raymond would score to tie the game at one for the Wings, but Geekie would score his second of the game while on the powerplay for his 20th of the season to give the Bruins the 2-1 lead. However, Michael Rasmussen would score late in regulation to tie the game 2 for the Red Wings to force overtime. After a scoreless 5 minutes of extra hockey, it would be Casey Mittelstadt with the shootout winner to give the Bruins the 3-2 victory over the Red Wings.

Philadelphia Flyers v. New Jersey Devils – 7p ET

  • In a Metro Division battle, the New Jersey Devils would play host to the Philadelphia Flyers, and in the first period, Owen Tippett would score to give the Flyers the 1-0 lead, but Simon Nemec would score to tie the game at one for the Devils. In the second period, Matvei Michkov, Travis Konecny, and Trevor Zegras would score to give Flyers the 4-1 lead, but a late powerplay tally by Timo Meier would to get the Devils back within two. Then in the third period, Dawson Mercer would score to get the Devils back within one, but Tippet would get his second of the game when he would be awarded an empty net goal to give the Flyers the 5-3 victory over the Devils.

Toronto Maple Leafs v. Pittsburgh Penguins – 7p ET

  • In Pittsburgh for Hockey Night in Canada, the Toronto Maple Leafs would visit the Penguins, and in the first period, Oliver Ekman-Larsson would open the scoring for the Leafs, but Ben Kindel would score on th powerplay to tie the game at one for the Penguins. However, Easton Cowan would score to retake the lead for the Leafs. In the second period, Bobby McMann, Dakota Joshua, and Nicolas Roy (PPG) would score to give the Leafs the 5-1 lead. Then in the third period, Sidney Crosby would score for Penguins, but Auston Matthews and Nicolas Robertson would score to give the Maple Leafs the 7-2 victory over the Penguins.

Winnipeg Jets v. Nashville Predators – 7p ET

  • In Nashville, the Predators would take on the visiting Winnipeg Jets, and in the first period, Gabriel Vilardi and Nino Niederreiter would score to give the Jets the 2-0 lead. In the second period, Cole Perfetti would score to grow the Jets lead to three, but Nick Blankenburg would score on the powerplay to get the Predators on the board and back within two. Then in the third period, Luke Evangelista would score go get the Predators back within one, but Kyle Connor and Niederreiter (ENG) would score to give the Jets the 5-2 victory over the Predators.

Utah Mammoth v. St. Louis Blues – 8p ET

  • In St. Louis, the Blues would play host to the Utah Mammoth, and after a scoreless first period, Dylan Holloway would score to give the Blues the 1-0 victory over the Mammoth. Joel Hoefer would stop all 18 shots faced to earn the shutout for the Blues.

Buffalo Sabres v. Minnesota Wild – 8p ET

  • In Minnesota, the Buffalo Sabres would come to the Twin Cities to battle the Wild, and in the first period, Kirill Kaprizov would score to give the Wild the 1-0 lead, but Beck Malenstyn would score to tie the game at one for the Sabres. However, Matt Boldy would score his 15th of the season to retake the lead for the Wild. Then after a scoreless second period, Josh Doan would score to tie the game at two for the Sabres to force overtime. After a scoreless five minutes of extra hockey, it would be Noah Ostlund with the shootout winner to give the Sabres the 3-2 victory over the Wild.
