  • The Chicago Blackhawks announced that captain Nick Foligno will be taking a brief leave of absence from the team.
    • Foligno is taking time away from the Blackhawks to be with his daughter as she undergoes follow-up surgery related to her congenital heart disease.
    • TXHT sends our thoughts to the Foligno family.

  • The Los Angeles Kings and Tampa Bay Lightning made a trade.
    • The Kings acquired goaltender Pheonix Copley.
    • The Lightning acquired Future Considerations.

Jersey Tracking and Mini Recaps

Ottawa Senators v. Buffalo Sabres – 7p ET

  • In Buffalo, the Sabres welcome the Senators to Western New York and in the first Jack Quinn scores a power play goal to put Buffalo up 1-0. However, Tim Stützle goes on to score his first of the season to even the score for Ottawa.  In the second, a Jake Sanderson power play goal puts the Sens up 2-1 but then Ryan McLeod responded with a shorthanded goal to even the score.  Alex Tuch then struck with his first of the year to give the Sabres the lead back and then Jason Zucker scored a pair of power play goals to put Buffalo up 5-2.  In the third, Shane Pinto scored his fifth to cut the Buffalo lead to two and then Lars Eller scored his first goal as a member of the Ottawa Seantors to bring the Sens within a goal.  However, Ryan McLeod scored his second of the night as Buffalo re-took the two goal lead and then Jack Quinn scored his second of the night as the Sabres made it a 7-4 lead.  Jiril Kulich then hits the empty net, good for his first goal on the year, as the Sabres double up the Senators 8-4.

 

Florida Panthers v. Detroit Red Wings – 7p ET

  • In the Motor City, the Red Wings welcomed the Panthers back to Detroit.  After a scoreless first, Mason Appleton scored his second to put Detroit on the board and then Patrick Kane scored a power play goal, his second goal of the season, as the Wings took the 2-0 lead.  However, Brad Marchand scored his third of the year to bring the Panthers within a goal.  Then, Mason Appleton scored an empty netter, his second goal of the night, and then Michael Rasmussen shuts the door with an empty net goal, his first scored of the year, as the Red Wings breeze by the Panthers for the 4-1 win.
