Jersey Tracking and Mini Recaps

Los Angeles Kings v. Winnipeg Jets – 130p ET

  • In Winnipeg for an early afternoon matinee, the Jets play host to the Los Angeles Kings, and in the first period while on the powerplay, Alex Iafallo would score to give the Jets the 1-0 lead. In the second period, Mikey Anderson and Adrian Kempe both scored for the Kings to take the 2-1 lead, but a late powerplay tally by Mark Scheifele would tie the game at two for the Jets. Then in the third period, Scheifele would net his second of the game to give the Jets the 3-2 victory over the Kings for their first win of the season.

St. Louis Blues v. Calgary Flames – 4p ET

  • In Calgary, the Flames play host to the St. Louis Blues for some pre-Hockey Night in Canada action, and in the first period, Matt Coronato would strike on the powerplay to give the Flames the 1-0 lead. In the second period, the Blues would strike as Jake Neighbours would net his first of the season to tie the game at one, and then on the powerplay, Robert Thomas would score to give the Blues the 2-1 lead, but 32 seconds later, Coronato would net his second of the game to tie the game at two for the Flames. Then in the third period, Flames goaltender Dustin Wolf would stand on his head, but Neighbours would tip one past Wolf for his second of the game, and then Pius Suter would score to give the Blues the 4-2 victory over the Flames.

Buffalo Sabres v. Boston Bruins – 7p ET

  • In Boston, the Bruins would play host to the Buffalo Sabres, and in the first period Pavel Zacha would score to give the Bruins the 1-0 lead.  In the second, Boston took the 2-0 lead when Mark Kastelic scored his first of the year.  In the third, Buffalo got on the board when Jason Zucker scored his first of the year but then Sean Kuraly scored an empty netter as the Bruins would go on to defeat the Sabres 3-1.

 

Toronto Maple Leafs v. Detroit Red Wings – 7p ET

  • In Detroit, the Red Wings play host to another Original Six team to open their season as they host the Toronto Maple Leafs, and in the first period, Calle Jarnkrok would strike 2:27 into the game to give the Leafs the 1-0 lead and then Nicolas Roy would score his first as a Leaf to grow their lead to two.  In the second, Marco Kasper scored his first to put Detroit on the board and then a goal from Lucas Raymond evened the score at 2.  Patrick Kane then went on to net his first of the season as Detroit took their first lead of the night.  In the third, a goal from Max Domi tied the contest up for Toronto.  Lucas Raymond then scored his second of the night on the man advantage as Detroit took the lead back from Toronto.  Then, Detroit got a pair of empty netters from Simon Edvinsson and Andrew Copp as the Red Wings doubled up the Maple Leafs 6-3.

New Jersey Devils v. Tampa Bay Lightning – 7p ET

  • In Tampa Bay, the Lightning would sport their alternate jerseys as they host the New Jersey Devils, and in the first period, the Devils would get goals from Timo Meier, Connor Brown, and Nico Hischier to give the Devils a commanding 3-0 lead.  In the second, Yanni Gourde put Tampa on the board with his first of the season and then Ryan McDonagh scored his first to bring Tampa Bay within one.  In the third, New Jersey then went back up a pair when Jesper Bratt scored a shorthanded goal, his second goal of the season, and then Connor Brown went on to net his second as New Jersey took a three goal lead over Tampa Bay.  Darren Raddysh then scored his first of the year but the Devils stopped the Lightning to get earn the 5-3 win.

 

Ottawa Senators v. Florida Panthers – 7p ET

  • In Florida, the Ottawa Senators would come to town to faceoff with the Panthers, and in the first period, Brad Marchand and Evan Rodrigues would score to give the Panthers the 2-0 lead, but late in the period, Shane Pinto would score to get the Senators on the board and back within one.  In the second, Florida re-took the two goal lead with Aaron Ekblad’s first of the year on the man-advantage and then Anton Lundell scored his second of the year on the man advantage to put the Panthers up three.  In the third, Florida took the four goal lead when Mackie Samoskevich netted his first of the season on a Panthers man-advantage and then a goal from Sam Reinhart, his first of the campaign, gave Florida the 6-1 lead.  Then, Shane Pinto scored his second of the night but the Panthers breezed by the Senators for the 6-2 win.

Washington Capitals v. New York Islanders – 7p ET

  • In Long Island, the Washington Capitals come to town to visit the New York Islanders to begin their road trip back-to-back, and in the first period, Martin Fehérváry would strike early to give the Capitals the 1-0 lead, and then later in the period, Aliaksei Protas would score to give the Capitals the 2-0 lead.  In the second, Washington took the commanding lead when Ryan Leonard struck with his first of the season and then Aliaksei Protas scored his second of the night to put the Capitals up four.  New York then got on the score sheet late in the period with a power play goal from Anthony Duclair.  In the third, Matthew Schafer scored his first career NHL goal to bring the Isles within two.  However, a comeback would not be in the cards as the Capitals held on and got the 4-2 victory over the Islanders.

New York Rangers v. Pittsburgh Penguins – 7p ET

  • In Pittsburgh, the Penguins play host to the New York Rangers with hopes of having the same success they had earlier this week against them, and in the first period, Mika Zibanejad would strike while shorthanded to give the Rangers the 1-0 lead.  In the second, Pittsburgh tied it up when Ben Kindel netted his first to even the score at a goal a piece.  Then, New York took back the lead with Adam Fox’s second of the year and then Will Cuylle scored on a Rangers power play to give New York the 3-1 lead.  Adam Fox then scored his second of the night on the New York power play to put the Blueshirts up three.  In the third, Matt Rempe scored his first of the year to extend the Rangers lead to four and then Taylor Raddysh struck with his first as the Rangers dominated the Penguins to get the 6-1 victory.

Philadelphia Flyers v. Carolina Hurricanes – 7p ET

  • In Carolina, the Hurricanes went to battle against the visiting Philadelphia Flyers, and in the first period, Owen Tippett would strike on the powerplay to give the Flyers the 1-0 lead.  In the second, Carolina evened the score when Logan Stankoven scored his first of the year but then Bobby Brink put the Flyers back in the lead with his first of the year.  Taylor Hall then netted his second of the season for the Canes to make this a tie game once more.  Carolina then took the 3-2 lead when Jordan Staal scored his first of the year but then Travis Sanheim evened the score with his first of the year.  In overtime, Seth Jarvis scored the game winner as the Hurricanes downed the Flyers 4-3.

Montreal Canadiens v. Chicago Blackhawks – 7p ET

  • In Chicago, the Blackhawks would play host to their Original Six rival Montreal Canadiens as they play their first home game of their centennial season, and after a scoreless first, Cole Caufield scored a power play goal to give the Habs the 1-0 lead.  Sam Rinzel then scored his first to tie the game for Chicago but then Zack Bolduc scored on the man advantage to give Montreal the 2-1 lead.  Connor Bedard then netted a power play goal of his own, his second goal of the season, to tie the game at 2.  In the third, Kaiden Guhle scored his first of the year as the Canadiens downed the Blackhawks 3-2.

Utah Mammoth v. Nashville Predators – 8p ET

  • In Nashville, the Predators opened their home slate up with the Mammoth coming to Music City USA.  In the the first, Utah took the lead when Logan Cooley netted his first of the season but then Nashville even the score when Filip Forsberg also scored his first of the year.  In the second, Nashville took the lead when Erik Haula scored his first of the year.  In the third, the Preds took the two goal lead with a power play goal from Roman Josi, his first goal of the year.  In the third, Utah tied the contest when Jack McBain scored his first of the year.  In the overtime session, Dylan Guenther scored his second of the year as the Mammoth downed the Predators 3-2.

Columbus Blue Jackets v. Minnesota Wild – 8p ET

  • In Minnesota, the Wild welcomed the Blue Jackets for their lone visit to the State of Hockey of the year.  In the first, Columbus took the 1-0 lead with a goal from Miles Wood.  In the second, Kirill Marchenko scored his first of the year as the Blue Jackets extended the lead to 2-0.  In the second, Minnesota got on the board when Matt Boldy scored his second of the year on the Minnesota man advantage.  Minnesota would then tie the game with a power play goal from Kirill Kaprizov, his first goal of the year.  Then, Columbus would re-take the lead when Kirill Marchenko netted his second goal of the contest and then Zach Werenski got his first of the year to put Columbus up two.  Then, Kirill Marchenko got the hat trick, scoring on the man advantage, to put the Blue Jackets up 5-2.  Then, Zeev Buium scored his first career NHL goal to bring Minnesota within two but then Adam Fantilli scored his first of the season to put the Blue Jackets back up three.  Kirill Kaprizov then scored his second power play goal of the evening to bring Minnesota back within two once more but then Boone Jenner hit the empty net as the Blue Jackets stopped the Wild for the 7-4 win.
