Chicago Blackhawks v. Florida Panthers – 5p ET
- To kick off the 2025-26 NHL season, the Florida Panthers raised their second consecutive Stanley cup banner before hosting the Chicago Blackhawks. In the first period Frank Nazar opened the scoring for the Blackhawks to give the 1-0 lead, but goals from A.J. Greer and Carter Verhaeghe (PPG) would give the Panthers the 2-1 lead. In the opening 69 seconds of the second period, Teuvo Teravainen would score to tie the game at two for the Blackhawks. Then in the third period, Jesper Boqvist would strike to give the Panthers the 3-2 victory over the Blackhawks.
Pittsburgh Penguins v. New York Rangers – 8p ET
- At Madison Square Garden, the New York Rangers begin their Centennial season by hosting their Metropolitan Division rival, the Pittsburgh Penguins. In the first period, Justin Brazeau would score his first goal as a Penguin to them the 1-0 lead. Then, after a scoreless second period, Brazeau and Blake Lizotte would both score empty netters to give the Penguins the 3-0 victory over the Rangers. Goaltender Arturs Silovs stopped all 25 shots faced to earn his first win as a Penguin and his first career shutout.
