Canadiens Weekly – Another Winning Week

Ladies and Gentleman, Boys and Girls, it is time once again to take a look at the Montreal Canadiens games from the prior week. With this being the final week before the trade deadline, this could be the final time some of these players will be together.

The Canadiens would have a full schedule of contests, with four contests being played and the Habs going 2-1-1.

Sunday, March 13th, 2022: Montreal Canadiens at Philadelphia Flyers

Game Recap: In Philadelphia, the Habs make their lone trip to city of Brotherly Love on the year and in the first period, Philadelphia takes the 1-0 lead when Kevin Hayes scores his fourth of the year. In the second, Montreal ties it up on the power play when Nick Suzuki scores his 15th of the year. Claude Giroux then goes on to score his 18th of the year to give the Flyers the 2-1 lead but then Nick Suzuki then strikes to net his second of the contest to tie the game up 2-2. As this contest shifts to the third period, Cam Atkinson goes on to score his 22nd of the season to give the Flyers the lead once more. Then with less than 42 seconds left, Rem Pitlick scores a shorthanded goal, his 12th goal of the year to tie the game at 3-3. In Overtime, Cole Caufield scores ninth of the year as the Canadiens get the 4-3 win over the Flyers.

Areas to Focus On Going Into Next Contest:  A good game overall for Montreal but they would fall behind but respond quickly. Try not to play catch up. Montreal did a good job not taking as many penalties but they were also given plenty of chances to take advantage of the extra man advantage but only struck once on the four attempts. Be bold and take more shots and chances on the extra man advantage.

In the first period, Arizona takes the 1-0 lead when Barrett Hayton nets his sixth of the year and then the ‘Yotes take the 2-0 lead after Anton Stralman goes to score his fifth of the year. Montreal then gets on the board when Laurent Dauphin strikes for his third of the year, but Arizona re-takes the two goal lead when Nick Ritchie scores his seventh of the year. Then, the Coyotes make it a 4-1 lead after Lawson Crouse goes on to score his 19th of the year. In the second, Arizona takes the four goal lead after Clayton Keller scores his 26th of the year but then the Habs respond when Cole Caufield nets a pair of goals late to cut the Arizona lead to two. In the third, Arizona seals the win after Nick Schmalts scores his second of the night as the Coyotes get the 6-3 win over the Canadiens.

Areas to Focus On Going Into Next Contest:  Don’t fall behind early. Once the Habs went into the intermission after the first period, the game was over. The chances are very slim to get a win after being down three. Study the game tape from tonight, find out what went wrong, and fix the mistakes going into the Dallas game on Thursday night.
