PHF Weekend Recap – The Final Stretch

Welcome to the TXHT PHF Weekend Recap for the Weekend of Saturday, March 12th and Sunday, March 13th, 2022, plus news coming out of the weekend.

Saturday, March 12th, 2022

Game #1 – Boston Pride v. Toronto Six

  • In Toronto the Six would host the Boston Pride for their las meeting of the 2021-22 season, and in the first period Christina Putigna would score to give the Pride the 1-0 lead. In the second period Mikyla Grant-Mentis would strike to tie the game for the Six. Then after a scoreless third period Breanne Wilson-Bennett would score to give the Six the 2-1 overtime victory over the Pride.

Game #2 – Minnesota Whitecaps v. Metropolitan Riveters

  • In New Jersey the Metropolitan Riveters would host the Minnesota Whitecaps with playoff positioning at stake, and after a scoreless first period Allie Thunstrom and Audra Morrison would score to give the Whitecaps the 2-0 lead. Then in the third period Kelly Babstock and Rebecca Russo would score for the Rivs, but Morrison and Thunstrom would net their second goals of the game to give the Whitecaps the 4-2 victory over the Riveters.

Game #3 – Buffalo Beauts v. Connecticut Whale

  • In Connecticut the Whale would look to keep to their winning ways as they host the Buffalo Beauts, and in the first period Emma Keenan and Kennedy Ganser would score for the Beauts, but goals from Cailey Hutchison, Emily Fluke, and Shannon Turner would give the Whale the 3-2 lead. Then after a scoreless second period Taylor Accursi would score for the Beauts, but goals from Kennedy Marchment and Amanda Conway would score to give the Whale the 5-3 victory over the Beauts.

Sunday, March 13th, 2022

Game #1 – Boston Pride v. Toronto Six

  • In Toronto the Six would host the Boston Pride, and in the first period Shiann Darkangelo and Brooke Boquist would score for the Six, but goals from McKenna Brand and Taylor Wenczkowski would give us a 2-2 tie. In the second period Brand would net her second of the game to give the Pride the 3-2 lead. Then in the third period Breanne Wilson-Bennett would score to tie the game at three. In the extra frame Darkangelo would net her second of the game to give the Six the 4-3 victory over the Pride.

Game #2 – Buffalo Beauts v. Connecticut Whale

  • In Connecticut the Whale would host the Buffalo Beauts, and in the first period Emily Fluke and Hannah Bates would score to give the Whale the 2-0 lead. In the second period Amanda Conway would score to grow the Whale’s lead to three. Then in the third period Hanna Beattie would score to give the Whale the 4-0 victory over the Beauts.

Game #3 – Minnesota Whitecaps v. Metropolitan Riveters

  • In New Jersey the Metropolitan Riveters and Minnesota Whitecaps would battle once more, and in the first period Brooke Avery and Kristen Barbara would score to give the Rivs the 2-0 lead. In the second period Madison Packer and Mallory Rushton would score to grow the Rivs lead to four, but Audra Morrison would score for the Whitecaps to cut the Rivs lead to three. Then in the third period Sydney Baldwin and Allie Thunstrom would score for the Whitecaps, but the Riveters would hold on for the 4-3 victory over the Whitecaps.

News and Notes

  • The PHF announced on Thursday that Hockey Hall of Famer, and Hockey Legend, Willie O’Ree has joined the Boston Pride’s ownership group.
    • O’Ree, who famously broke the NHL’s color barrier on January 18th, 1958 with the Boston Bruins, will take on a minority owner role with the Pride.
  • The PHF announced that will be partnering with the Tampa Bay Lightning for the 2022 Isobel Cup Playoffs.

Standings

3 Stars of the Week

First Star – Audra Morrison (MIN)

  • Morrison would record three goals for the Minnesota Whitecaps as they ended their 2021-22 regular season. She would record two goals in Minnesota’s 4-2 victory over the Metropolitan Riveters on Saturday, and then on Sunday would record a goal in their 4-3 loss to the Riveters.

Second Star – Breanne Wilson-Bennett (TOR)

  • Wilson-Bennett would record a goal and an assist in the Toronto Six’s 2-1 overtime victory over the Boston Pride on the Saturday. Then on the Sunday she would score a powerplay goal in the Six’s 4-3 overtime victory over the Pride.

Third Star – Shiann Darkangelo (TOR)

  • Darkangelo would also record two goals and an assist in the Six’s weekend series against the Pride. On Saturday Darkangelo would pick up an assist, and then on Sunday she would record her tow goals, including the overtime winner.
