News

  • The Philadelphia Flyers announced that they have signed forward Porter Martone.
    • Martone would sign his entry-level contract which would be for 3 years and carry an AAV of $966,667 per season.
    • Martone is expected to make his Flyers debut this week and will burn the first year of his entry-level deal.

  • In a surprising move, the Vegas Golden Knights announced a coaching change.
    • The Knights relieved Bruce Cassidy of his duties as head coach.
    • The Knights hired John Tortorella as their new head coach.

  • The PWHL Player Safety Committee announced that they have levied a suspension and a fine for events that took place on Friday, March 27th when the Toronto Sceptres hosted the Boston Fleet.
    • The PWHL PSC suspended Toronto Sceptres forward Clara Van Wieren for one game.
      • In the game, Van Wieren was assessed a major penalty for boarding at 18:40 of the third period. In their review, the PWHL Player Safety Committee determined that Van Wieren raised her stick with both arms, causing the shaft to strike opponent Sophie Shirley in the back, sending her dangerously into the boards with sufficient force to warrant supplemental discipline.
      • The play violated both PWHL Rule 41.1 – Boarding and Rule 60.1 – Cross-checking.
      • This is the first incident of supplemental discipline in Van Wieren’s career.
    • The PWHL PSC fined Boston Fleet defender Rylind MacKinnon $500.
      • Following the hit, an altercation ensued where MacKinnon was unpenalized after delivering a high cross-check on Van Wieren, then grabbing ahold of her face mask and forcefully pulling her to the ice.
      • In doing so, MacKinnon violated PWHL Rule 51 – Roughing and warrants supplemental discipline.
      • MacKinnon was previously suspended for one game for an illegal check to the head on Dec. 1, 2024, as a member of Toronto.

Jersey Tracking and Mini Recaps

Vancouver Goldeneyes v. Toronto Sceptres – 1p ET (PWHL)

  • In Toronto for to kickoff a PWHL tripleheader, the Sceptres would play host to the Vancouver Goldeneyes, and in the first period, Blayre Turnbull would open the scoring for the Sceptres, but Hannah Miller would score score for the Goldeneyes to tie the game at one. Then in the second period, Izzy Daniel would score to give the Goldeneyes the 2-1 lead, but Turnbull would net her second of the game while on the powerplay to tie the game at two for the Sceptres. However, Mannon McMahon would score on the powerplay to give the Goldeneyes the 3-2 victory over the Sceptres.

Florida Panthers v. New York Rangers – 4p ET

  • At Madison Square Garden, the New York Rangers would play host to the Florida Panthers, and after a scoreless first and second periods, Adam Sykora, Conor Sheary (SHG), and Adam Fox (ENG) would score for the Rangers. Mackie Samoskevich would score late for the Panthers, but the Rangers would go on to defeat the Panthers 3-1.

Boston Fleet v. Minnesota Frost – 4p ET (PWHL)

  • In Minnesota for some more PWHL action, the Frost would play host to the Boston Fleet with a playoff spot on the line. In the first period, Haley Winn and Sophie Shirley would score to give the Fleet the 2-0 lead. In the second period, Lee Stecklein would score on the powerplay and Taylor Heise would score for the Frost to tie the game at two, but Liz Schepers would score to reclaim the lead for the Fleet. Then in the third period, Shirley would net her second of the game to give the Fleet the 4-1 victory over the Frost and become the first team to clinch a berth into the PWHL Playoffs.

Nashville Predators v. Tampa Bay Lightning – 5p ET

  • In Tampa Bay, the Nashville Predators would come to town to battle the Lightning, and after a scoreless first period, Joakim Kemell would score his first career NHL goal for the Predators, but Jake Guentzel’s 35th of the season would tie the game at one for the Lightning. Then in the third period, Brandon Hagel would score his 35th of the season for the Lightning while Filip Forsberg would score for the Predators for the 2-2 tie, but Corey Perry’s 15th of the season would give the Lightning the 3-2 victory over the Predators.

Montreal Canadiens v. Carolina Hurricanes – 5p ET

  • In Carolina, the Hurricanes would play host to the Montreal Canadiens, and in the first period, Andrei Svechnikov would score on the powerplay to give the Hurricanes the 1-0 lead. Then after a scoreless second period, Nick Suzuki would net a pair of goals and Cole Caufield would score to give the Canadiens the 3-1 victory over the Hurricanes.

Boston Bruins v. Columbus Blue Jackets – 5p ET

  • In Columbus with playoff hopes in play, the Boston Bruins would come to town to battle the Blue Jackets, and in the first period, Boone Jenner, Mason Marchment, and Charlie Coyle (PPG) would score to give the Jackets the 3-0 lead. Then after a scoreless second period, Charlie McAvoy would score and Pavel Zacha would net a pair of powerplay goals to tie the game at three for the Bruins to force overtime. After a scoreless extra five minutes of hockey, Viktor Arvidsson would score the shootout winner to complete the comeback as the Bruins would defeat the Blue  Jackets 4-3.

Ottawa Charge v. Seattle Torrent – 7p ET (PWHL)

  • In Seattle to finish off the PWHL tripleheader, the Torrent would play host to the Ottawa Charge, and in the first period, Sarah Wozniewicz would score her fifth of the season to give the Charge the 1-0 lead. In the second period, Peyton Hemp would score her first career PWHL goal to grow the Charge’s lead to 2. Then it would be a scoreless third period as Gwyneth Phillips would stop all 25 shots faced to earn the shutout and give the Charge the 2-0 victory over the Torrent.

Chicago Blackhawks v. New Jersey Devils – 7p ET

  • In New Jersey, the Devils would play host to the Chicago Blackhawks, and in the first period, Ilya Mikheyev would open the scoring with his 15th of the season for the Blackhawks, but Connor Brown’s 15th of the season while on the powerplay would tie the game at one for the Devils. However, Frank Nazar would score to give the Blackhawks the 2-1 lead going into the first intermission. In the second period, Simon Nemec would score to tie the game at two for the Devils. Then in the third period, Nazar would score on the powerplay for his second of the game for the Blackhawks, but Dougie Hamilton would score and Jack Hughes would net a pair of goals to give the Devils the 5-3 victory over the Blackhawks.

Dallas Stars v. Philadelphia Flyers – 7p ET

  • In Philadelphia, the Dallas Stars would come to town to battle the Flyers, and after a scoreless first period, Travis Konecny would score on the powerplay to give the Flyers the 1-0 lead, but Arttu Hyry would score his first career NHL goal while shorthanded to tie the game at one for the Stars. Then after a scoreless third period, Trevor Zegras would score to give the Flyers the 2-1 overtime victory over the Stars.
