- The NHL Department of Player Safety issued a pair of fines stemming from the latest Tampa Bay Lightning/Florida Panthers game on Saturday, December 27th.
- Panthers forward Anton Lundell was fined $5,000 for high sticking Lightning forward Jake Guentzel.
- Lightning forward Scott Sabourin was fined $2,018.23 for slashing Panthers defenseman Niko Mikkola.
- The fines were the maximum allowed per the terms of the CBA.
- The 2026 IIHF World Junior Championship in Minnesota featured two games.
- Sweden defeated Switzerland 4-2.
- Finland defeated Latvia 8-0.

Montreal Canadiens v. Tampa Bay Lightning – 5p ET
- In Tampa Bay, the Lightning would play host to the Montreal Canadiens, and after a scoreless first period, Nikita Kucherov would score a pair of goals and Nick Paul would score to give the Lightning the 3-0 lead. Then in the third period, Ivan Demidov would score for the Canadiens, but Pontus Holmberg would score for the Lightning to take the 4-1 lead. However, a pair of goals from Juraj Slafkovsky and a tally from Noah Dobson would tie the game at 4 for the Canadiens to force overtime. After a scoreless five minutes of extra hockey, it would be Gage Goncalves with the shootout winner to give the Lightning the 5-4 victory over the Canadiens
New York Islanders v. Columbus Blue Jackets – 5p ET
- In Columbus, the New York Islanders would come to town for a Metro Division matchup against the Blue Jackets, and in the first period, Kirill Marchenko would open the scoring for the Jackets, but Max Shabanov would score to tie the game at one for the Islanders. In the second period, Bo Horvat would score to give the Islanders the 2-1 lead. Then in the third period, Ivan Provorov, Marchenko, and Cole Sillinger (ENG) would score to give the Blue Jackets the 4-2 victory over the Islanders.
Seattle Torrent v. New York Sirens – 6p ET (PWHL)
- At American Airlines Center in Dallas, the PWHL Takeover Tour continues as the New York Sirens battle the Seattle Torrent. In the first period, Danielle would score her first of the season to give the Torrent the 1-0 lead, but Casey O’Brien would score her first career PWHL goal to tie the game at one for the Sirens. However, Mikyla Grant-Mentis would score to retake the lead for the Torrent. In the second period, O’Brien would net her second of the game while on the powerplay to tie the game at two for the Sirens. Then in the third period, Lexie Adzija would score for the Torrent to take the 3-2 lead, but Maddi Wheeler would score her first career PWHL goal and O’Brien would score on the powerplay to complete the hat trick to give the Sirens the 4-3 victory over the Torrent.
Toronto Maple Leafs v. Detroit Red Wings – 7p ET
- In Detroit, the Red Wings would host the Toronto Maple Leafs for an Original Six matchup, and after a scoreless first period, both teams would trade goals as Matthew Knies would score on the powerplay fort he Leafs while Moritz Seider would score for the Wings for the 1-1 tie. Then in the third period, Nicholas Robertson would score for the Leafs and Mason Appleton would score for the Wings for this game to overtime tied at two. In the extra frame, Simon Edvinsson would score his fifth of the season to give the Red Wings the 3-2 overtime victory over the Maple Leafs.
Pittsburgh Penguins v. Chicago Blackhawks – 7p ET
- In Chicago, the Pittsburgh Penguins would come to town to battle the Blackhawks, and in the first period, Anthony Mantha and Justin Brazeau would score and Bryan Rust would score a pair of goals to give the Penguins a commanding 4-0 lead. In the second period, Nick Foligno and Wyatt Kaiser would score for the Blackhawks, but Brazeau would score a pair of goals to complete the hat trick and Noel Acciari would score to give the Penguins the 7-2 lead. Then in the third period, Tyler Bertuzzi would score for the Blackhawks, but the Penguins would go on to defeat the Blackhawks 7-3.
Philadelphia Flyers v. Seattle Kraken – 8p ET
- In Seattle, the Philadelphia Flyers would come to town to battle the Kraken, and after a scoreless first period, Jordan Eberle would score to give the Kraken the 1-0 lead. Then in the third period, Chandler Stephenson would score his 10th of the season and Eeli Tolvanen would score an empty netter to give the Kraken the 3-0 lead, but Carl Grundstrom would score to end the shutout bid for the Flyers. However, Tolvanen would score another empty netter to give the Kraken the 4-1 victory over the Flyers.
