- The NHL Department of Player Safety announced that they have fined Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Matt Grzelcyk.
- Grzelcyk would be fined $2,604.17 for cross checking Ottawa Senators forward Tim Stutzle on Saturday, Dec. 20th.
- The fine would be the maximum allowed per the CBA.
- The Buffalo Sabres announced that they have hired Marc Bergevin and Josh Flynn.
- Bergevin will serve as associate general manager.
- Flynn will serve as assistant general manager.

Toronto Sceptres v. New York Sirens – 12p ET (PWHL)
- At the Prudential Center, the New York Sirens would play host to the Toronto Sceptres, and in the first period, Jesse Compher would strike first for the Sceptres to take the 1-0 lead, but Kristýna Kaltounková would score to tie the game at one for the Sirens. In the second period, Blayre Turnbull would score to retake the lead for the Sceptres, but Kaltounková would net her second of the game while on the powerplay to tie the game at two for the Sirens. However, Emma Maltais would score her first of the season to give the Sceptres the 3-2 lead. Then in the third period, Compher would net her second of the game with the empty netter, but while Taylor Girard would score for the Sirens, the Sceptres would take the 4-3 victory over the Sirens.
Washington Capitals v. Detroit Red Wings – 1p ET
- In Detroit, the Red Wings would honor their original venues “The Old Red Barn” Olympia Stadium and “The Joe” Joe Louis Arena before hosting the Washington Capitals for the second game of their home and home back-to-back, and in the first period, Ethen Frank would score to give the Capitals the 1-0 lead. In the second period, Lucas Raymond would score on the powerplay and John Leonard would score to give the Wings the 2-1 lead. Then in the third period, Frank would net his second of the game to tie the game at two for the Capitals to force overtime. In the extra frame, Moritz Seider would score to give the Red Wings the 3-2 overtime victory over the Capitals.
Ottawa Charge v. Minnesota Frost – 2p ET (PWHL)
- At All State Arena in Chicago for the PWHL Takeover Tour, the Minnesota Frost would play host to the Ottawa Charge, and Ronja Savolainen would score her first of the season to give the Charge the 1-0 lead. In the second period, Britta Curl-Salemme would score to tie the game at one for the Frost, but Brianne Jenner would score on the powerplay to give the Charge the 2-1 lead. Then in the third period, Mae Batherson would score on the powerplay for her first of the season to tie the game at two for the Frost to force overtime. In the extra frame, Sarah Wozniewicz would score her first career PWHL goal to give the Charge the 3-2 overtime victory over the Frost.
Boston Fleet v. Seattle Torrent – 5p ET (PWHL)
- In Seattle, the Boston Fleet would come to town to visit their former captain Hilary Knight and the Torrent, and in the first period, Daniela Pejšová would score her first career PWHL goal and Riley Brengman would score to give the Fleet the 2-0 lead. Then after a scoreless second period, Megan Keller would score on the powerplay to give the Fleet the 3-0 lead, but Jessie Eldridge would score to get the Torrent on the board. However, the Fleet would go on to defeat the Torrent 3-1.
Colorado Avalanche v. Minnesota Wild – 6p ET
- In Minnesota, the 25th Anniversary celebration would continue for the Wild as they play host to the Colorado Avalanche, and in the first period, Martin Necas would score his 16th goal of the season to give the Avalanche the 1-0 lead. In the second period, Nathan MacKinnon would score his 29th goal of the season and Cale Makar would score on the powerplay to give the Avalanche the 3-0 lead. Then in the third period, Ryan Hartman would score for the Wild, but goals by Brock Nelson and MacKinnon (30th of the season) would give the Avalanche the 5-1 victory over the Wild.
Ottawa Senators v. Boston Bruins – 7p ET
- In Boston, the Bruins would play host to the Ottawa Senators, and in the first period, Drake Batherson, Claude Giroux, and Fabian Zeetterlund (PPG) would score to give the Senators the 3-0 lead, but David Pastrnak would score while on the powerplay to get the Bruins on the board. In the second period, Tim Stutzle and Dylan Cozens would score to give the Senators the 5-1 lead, but Michael Eyssimont would score for the Bruins to get back within three. However, Zetterlund would net his second of the game to give the Senators the 4 goal lead again. Then in the third period, Charlie McAvoy would score for Boston, but the Senators would go on to defeat the Bruins 6-2.
Buffalo Sabres v. New Jersey Devils – 7p ET
- In New Jersey, the Devils would battle the visiting Buffalo Sabres, and in the first period, the returning Jack Hughes would score to give the Devils the 1-0 lead. In the second period, Josh Norris and Zach Benson would score to give the Sabres the 2-1 lead. Then in the third period, Peyton Krebs would score the empty netter to give the Sabres the 3-1 victory over the Devils.
Montreal Canadiens v. Pittsburgh Penguins – 7p ET
- In Pittsburgh, the Montreal Canadiens would come to town to battle the Penguins, and in the first period, Oliver Kapanen would open the scoring for the Canadiens, but Sidney Crosby would score his 20th of the season and Rickard Rakell would score on the powerplay to give the Penguins the 2-1 lead. In the second period, Ivan Demidov would score to tie the game at two for the Canadiens, but Noel Acciari would score to retake the one goal lead for the Penguins. Then in the third period, Noah Dobson would score to tie the game at three for the Canadiens to force overtime. After a scoreless extra five minutes of hockey, it would be Rakell with the shootout winner to give the Penguins the 4-3 victory over the Canadiens.
New York Rangers v. Nashville Predators – 7p ET
- In Nashville, the Predators would take on the New York Rangers, and after a scoreless first period, Filip Forsberg would score to give the Predators the 1-0 lead. Then in the third period, Steven Stamkos would get the empty netter to give the Predators the 2-0 lead, and while Jonny Brodzinski would score for the Rangers, they would fall to the Predators 2-1.
Toronto Maple Leafs v. Dallas Stars – 7p ET
- In Dallas, the Stars would rock their 1999 inspired jerseys as they host the Toronto Maple Leafs, and in the first period, Jason Robertson would score to give the Stars the 1-0 lead. After a scoreless second period, Sam Steel would score to give the Stars the 2-0 lead, but Scott Laughton would score to get the Leafs on the board and back within one. However, Jamie Benn would score and Mavrik Bourque would get the empty netter and Justin Hryckowian would score to give the Stars the 5-1 victory over the Maple Leafs.
Winnipeg Jets v. Utah Mammoth – 7p ET
- In Utah, the Winnipeg Jets would come to town to battle the Mammoth, and in the first period, Lawson Crouse and JJ Peterka would score to give the Mammoth the 2-0 lead. In the second period, Alexander Kerfoot would score his first of the season for the Mammoth to take the three goal lead, but Kyle Connor would score to get the Jets on the board and back within two. Then in the third period, Connor would net his second of the game and Morgan Barron would score to tie the game at three for the Jets to force overtime. In the extra frame, Clayton Keller would score to give the Mammoth the 4–3 overtime victory over the Jets.

Vegas Golden Knights v. Edmonton Oilers – 8p ET
- In Edmonton, the Oilers would play host to the Vegas Golden Knights, and in the first period, Connor McDavid and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins would score to give the Oilers the 2-0 lead. In the second period, Nugent-Hopkins would score his second of the game and Zach Hyman would score to grow the Oilers lead to 4, but Tomas Hertl would score to get the Knights on the board. Then in the third period, Pavel Dorofeyev would strike on the powerplay and Mitch Marner would score for the Knights to get back within one, but the Oilers would hold on to defeat the Golden Knights 4-3.
