The Darkhorse
Coming into the PWHL for their inaugural season, the 2025-26 season could be the year for the expansion Vancouver Goldeneyes. They had, in my opinion, the strongest expansion draft and free agency. The one-two punch of Emerance Maschmeyer and Kristen Campbell in goal, and then a defense that is anchored by Sophie Jaques, Claire Thompson, Emma Greco, and Ashton Bell give a backend that could be lights out a lot of nights.
The Goldeneyes offense features Brooke McQuigge, Tereza Vanisova, Sarah Nurse, Abby Boreen, Hannah Miller, and Michela Cava, and on paper, that is a very dangerous forward group that can really generate scoring chances and bring a hard game to teams most nights. The Goldeneyes have a very promising 2025-26 season in front of them, and one I say could be the next Walter Cup champions.
