News

  • The Washington Capitals announced a series of moves.
    • The Capitals signed forward Brett Leason to a one-year, two-way contract that carries an NHL AAV of $775,000.
      • Leason was also placed on waivers for the purpose of sending to Hershey.
    • The Capitals also recalled forward Ethen Frank from Hershey.
    • The Capitals also placed defenseman Rasmus Sandin on Injured Reserve.

 

  • The NHL announced that San Jose Sharks forward Macklin Celebrini as First Star of the Week.
    • Logan Cooley (UTH) and Jack Hughes (NJ) would round out the rest of the Three Stars of the Week.

Jersey Tracking and Mini Recaps

St. Louis Blues v. Pittsburgh Penguins – 7p ET

  • In Pittsburgh, the Penguins hosted the Blues for their lone visit this year and in the first Pittsburgh took the 1-0 lead with Bryan Rust’s second of the year and then Anthony Mantha struck with his fifth of the year to put the Pens up 2-0.  Then, St. Louis got a pair when Nick Bjugstad scored his second and then Jordan Kyrou got his third of the year to even the score.  In the second, Parker Wotherspoon scored his first goal as a Penguin to put Pittsburgh back in the lead.  In the third, Bryan Rust scored his second of the night to put the Pens back up two but then Mathieu Joseph got his first on the year to bring St. Louis back within a goal.  Then, Pittsburgh went back up a pair when Sidney Crosby struck with his seventh and then Evgeni Malkin got his third of the year with an empty netter as the Penguins downed the Blues 6-3.

Boston Bruins v. Ottawa Senators – 730p ET

  • In Ottawa, the Senators hosted the Bruins in key divisional matchup.  In the first, Morgan Geekie scored his seventh of the year to put Boston up 1-0 but then the Sens evened the score thanks to a man-advantage goal from Drake Batherson, his third goal of the season.  In the second, Ottawa took the lead when Claude Giroux netted his second of the year and then Drake Batherson scored his second of the game. In the third, Tim Stützle scored a pair of power play goals to put Ottawa up 5-1.  Nick Cousins then strikes for his second to put Ottawa up five and then Fabian Zetterlund scored on the power play as the Senators go up 7-1.  Boston responds with Viktor Arvidsson’s second of the year but the Senators would go on to soundly defeat the Bruins 7-2.
